Lesson 2 - Sustainability in Action

Focus:  Continuation of learning about how to effectively plan and beginning planning.

WALT –

  • Develop our planning and collaboration skills by giving and receiving feedback.

  • Use digital resources to support our design process.

  • Begin drafting detailed plans for our community-based build.

 

WILF –

  • Thoughtful peer feedback using the feedback sandwich model.

  • Relevant notes taken from the video that support your planning.

  • A clear, organised planning worksheet showing roles and design goals.

  • Use of voice recordings to guide planning ideas.

Who needs to be involved with building and planning?

 Landscape Architects & Urban Planners 

  • Role: Design the layout and overall plan of the space to make it useful, beautiful, and safe.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Plan where different features will go (paths, play equipment, gardens)

    • Make sure the design suits the environment and community needs

    • Think about how people will move through and use the space

 Engineers 

  • Role: Make sure the structures are safe and stable by doing technical calculations and solving problems.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Check the strength and safety of play equipment, bridges, shelters, etc.

    • Plan how things will be built (e.g., foundations, supports)

    • Work with architects and builders to ensure everything is built correctly

 Builders 

  • Role: Construct the actual space using tools and materials.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Build paths, fences, playgrounds, seating, and garden beds

    • Follow the engineer’s and planner’s designs

    • Use tools to measure, cut, and join materials

Let's Reflect and give Feedback!

In pairs, swap work with another group and listen to each other’s voice recordings from the previous lesson. Provide feedback to one another on anything they could also include, or anything they liked that the other person has included in their recording. Make sure you are providing feedback in your burger/sandwich and are recording all of the feedback you get!

Planning

Begin a planning worksheet in partnerships!

Plan for whichever building you are going to make, using your voice recording and planning worksheet as a guide. 

 

Think about...

  1. What you are going to build

  2. How work will be shared/allocated

  3. Decide upon roles
